The second week of the season arrived to find Lucky and  Amy Streich, Jason Ramsey, Don Decker, Dan Reukauf, Mike Lewis and Craig Bartholomew in attendance for this weeks hunt.  After a fine lobster feed we went of to the rifle range to check out the marksmanship and rifles of some of the hunters.  We did discover a broken scope on Amy's rifle that a trip to Two Rivers Canoe the following morning rectified.  After watching the riflemen, we went back to the lodge where the archers showed their talents on the 3-d bear.

Monday morning Jason accompanied me running baits.  We returned to the lodge for a great lunch and then headed out to the baits.  After getting everyone in their stands I found a bait to sit on as well.  It wasn't long and a sow with two cubs paid me a visit.  Before too much longer I heard a shot and knew that Don had fired at a bear.  A couple of minutes later my cell phone rang confirming that.  I went to the bait site and found Don pretty excited.  A few minutes later we recovered his bear.  The next action came at the end of shooting time when Amy Streich, my first lady hunter, shot a bear on her bait.  After picking up the rest of guys we went in to find her large Maine black bear a short distance from where she had shot at it.  The only other action was Mike saw a bear on his bait.  At the end of the first day we had two black bears in the cooler and 6 bears seen.

Tuesday Jason and I ran baits once again, then back to the lodge for lunch.  After lunch we headed off to the bait sites for another afternoon of hunting.  Today it was pretty quiet until my phone rang towards the end of shooting time.  Lucky had shot at a bear.  After reviewing the scene it was determined his arrow was either high or low, but nothing more than a spooked bear.  Jason had scene 3 bears on his bait that afternoon and Dan had seen 1 as well.  So today no bears taken, but 5 more sightings.

On Wednesday afternoon Jason's patience was rewarded when he was able to take a nice boar with a well placed arrow through the lungs.  After a bit of blood trailing we recovered his bear and waited to pick up the rest of the hunters.  No more bears were seen this day.

The rest of the week was tough hunting.  The weather had turned a bit windy and even though we were on new active baits no more bears were seen or taken.  So the grand total for week two was 3 bears taken and 12 bears seen on the baits.
